Pulling up to the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona is a surreal experience. 15 concrete tepees are lined up side-by-side to give visitors a taste of what it was like to travel along Route 66 in the good ol' days. The motel originally opened in 1950, and was one of only seven franchises across America. I met Christopher Gillham and Jennifer Cox from St. Louis when I was checking in, and they are also traveling Route 66 to Los Angeles. However, they are driving a classic car on their Route 66 journey -- a 1965 Pontiac Parisienne. BTW, Chris and Jenn are only the second set of Americans that I've met who are traveling Route 66...I also met a group of women from Connecticut and Massachusetts who were making the cross-country crusade.
