Just west of Albuquerque, in Laguna, New Mexico, there is a beautiful stretch of Route 66 that runs through the mountains and around steep curves, showing off the gorgeous landscape and rock formations in the area. But if you take Interstate 40, which most people do, you will miss all the beauty that's been forgotten because Route 66 has been bypassed. Route 66 is so desolate along this stretch that I was able to take pictures in the middle of the empty highway next to the Route 66 logos on the road with I-40 traffic buzzing by behind me. If you look closely you can see the semi trucks on the interstate behind me.
