The Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona has a 28-mile road through the desert that includes part of Route 66. The park contains 93,000 acres of petrified wood, which was formed more than 200 million years ago after a forest was buried in volcanic ash. If you don't look closely, the petrified trees look like giant rocks. The only place you can take pictures next to the petrified trees are at the visitors center. It is illegal to take any pieces of the wood from the park.
